Printing 2x6 classic photo strips

Updated today

Printers do not support printing 2x6 strips directly so you'll need to configure dslrBooth to properly print either single or double 2x6 strips.

dslrBooth is a versatile photo booth software that allows users to create custom print layouts. When paired with a DNP printer, such as the DS-RX1HS, it can produce high-quality prints in various sizes. To achieve the desired output, it is essential to configure both the software and the printer correctly.

Afterwards, you can cut the 4x6 into two 2x6 either manually or if your printer supports it, have the printer cut it for you.

Windows

Step 1

Option 1

  • Go to Print Layout, change Paper Size to 2 x 6.

  • Check the setting for Print 2 per page if printing double strips.

  • To print a single strip, ensure the "Print 2 per page" option is disabled and confirm your printer can handle single 2x6 prints.

  • Now dslrBooth will duplicate your 2x6 template to create a 4x6 print for double strips or retain the single 2x6 layout.

For example, to print two 2x6 photo strips per session, select a 2x6 strip layout and enable "Print 2 per page." This will send a single 4x6 image containing two strips to the printer. Configure the printer driver to set the paper size to 4x6 and enable the 2-inch cut option. Save the settings and print a test page to ensure accuracy.

This is a good option if you wish to share individual 2x6 strips on social media but wish to print two 2x6 strips on your printer. It'll also present print number options in multiples of 2.

For single strip printing, ensure the "Print 2" option is not enabled and verify printer driver compatibility with single 2x6 sizes.

Option 2

  • Go to Print Layout, choose Four Poses, Double Strip template or create one using Paper Size of 4 x 6 and Vertical Orientation

  • Manually duplicate your template on the left and the right.

This option is useful if you want additional control over the placement of all graphics or if you want different left and right side strips.

Option 3

  • Design the Layout: In dslrBooth, create the photo layout as a 2x6 format.

  • Disable the Print 2 Option: In the Print Layout settings, ensure the "Print 2" option is NOT selected.

  • Update the Print Setup: Configure your Windows printer driver to support a single 2x6 paper size.

Step 2

  • If you have a professional dye sub printer that supports cutting, go to Settings, Print Setup, Configure Printer, Preferences, Advanced, and turn on the 2x6 cutting option for your specific printer. Below are what those settings look like for the DNP DS40. Your printer settings will vary depending on the printer you are using.

  • For the DNP DS40 printer, the 2x6 cutting option can be found in the driver preferences. Open the printer’s driver settings and enable the 2x6 cutting feature. Consult the printer’s manual if you have trouble locating this option.

  • Open dslrBooth and navigate to Settings.

  • Go to Print Setup and select Configure Printer.

  • In the printer configuration dialog, click on Preferences and then Advanced.

  • Locate the option for 2x6 cutting and enable it. The exact name of this setting may vary by printer model.

  • Ensure the paper size is set to 4x6, as this is required for the printer to cut the sheet into two 2x6 strips.

Additionally, ensure that the printer driver settings on your computer are configured to match the layout and cut options specified in dslrBooth. This includes setting the paper size and enabling the necessary cut options, such as the 2-inch cut for photo strips.

Ensure your printer driver supports the specified paper size configuration for accurate results; otherwise, single 2x6 printing may not be possible.

  • If you cannot find the 2x6 cutting option, check your printer’s driver settings or consult the printer’s manual.

  • Ensure that the paper size is correctly set to 4x6 in both dslrBooth and the printer’s settings.

  • Restart dslrBooth and your printer after making changes to ensure the settings are applied.

  • If prints are misaligned, double-check the layout dimensions in dslrBooth and ensure they match the printer's paper size and cut settings.

  • If blank spaces appear on prints, verify that the "Print 2" option is enabled in dslrBooth for layouts requiring multiple strips.

  • If cuts are incorrect, confirm that the correct cut option (e.g., 2-inch cut) is enabled in the printer driver.

Printing 5x15 cm Bookmark Strips

To print 5x15 cm bookmark strips on a DNP DS-RX1HS:

  1. In dslrBooth, create a single 5x15 cm strip layout.

  2. Select the "Print 2" option near the paper size. This will place two 5x15 strips on a single 10x15 sheet.

  3. Configure the DNP DS-RX1HS printer driver:

    • Set the paper size to 10x15 cm.

    • Enable the 5x15 strip/2-up option to ensure the printer cuts the sheet correctly.

Note: When using Mitsubishi printers, select 5x15x2 Type1 to allow for 2 photo strips with cutting.

  • For the DNP DS-RX1HS printer, open the printer configuration dialog in dslrBooth and enable the 2" cut option. Ensure the paper size is set to 4x6 to allow the printer to cut the sheet into two 2x6 strips.

If your prints are coming out rotated by 90 degrees, see this article.
