AI Portraits in LumaBooth let you transform your photo booth guests into superheroes, oil paintings, 3D characters, and more — in about 10 seconds. The Custom AI Portraits feature goes a step further, letting you build your own unique style presets by combining portrait themes with art styles and custom prompts.
This tutorial walks you through the full setup process, from enabling the feature to previewing your custom creations before your event.
What You'll Need
An active LumaBooth subscription (iPad, iPhone, Mac, or Windows)
Access to the LumaBooth Dashboard
AI Credits (new subscribers receive 20 free credits to start)
A stable internet connection
Step 1: Open Your Event in the Dashboard
Go to dash.lumabooth.com and log in.
Select the event you want to configure, or create a new one.
In the event settings panel, locate AI Portraits in the left-hand navigation.
Step 2: Enable AI Portraits
Click into the AI Portraits section.
Toggle AI Portraits on.
Once enabled, the AI Portraits options will expand to reveal style and preset controls.
Step 3: Understand the Two-Part Prompt System (Presets)
LumaBooth AI Portraits use a two-part system to define each style preset:
Portrait Style — The subject or theme (e.g., Superhero, Astronaut, Medieval Knight, Renaissance)
Art Style — The visual treatment applied on top (e.g., Oil Painting, Pop Art, Watercolor, Comic Book)
Combining these two elements creates a unique "prompt" for the AI.
Step 4: Build Your First Custom Preset
Click Add Preset (or the + button) in the AI Portraits settings.
From the Portrait Style menu, browse the categories and select your base theme.
From the Art Style menu, select the visual treatment you want applied.
Give your preset a name guests will see on-screen (e.g., "Space Explorer" or "Royal Oil Portrait").
Step 5: Preview Your Presets with the Test Image Tool
Before your event, always test how your presets look.
In the AI Portraits settings, locate the Test Image feature.
Upload a sample photo — use a well-lit, close-up headshot for the most accurate preview.
Select one of your presets and click Generate.
Review the output. Adjust your style combinations if needed.
Repeat for each preset you plan to offer.
This step costs AI credits, so test selectively — but testing at least one or two presets before a live event is strongly recommended.
Step 6: Optimize Your Presets for Your Event
Match your presets to the event theme for the best guest experience. Some examples:
Corporate event → Classic Hollywood, Spy/Secret Agent, Black & White Film Noir
Kids' birthday party → Animated Characters, Superhero, Cartoon
Wedding → Renaissance Italy, Watercolor, Roaring Twenties
Halloween event → Dark Vigilante, Fantasy, Stained Glass
Sports event → Basketball, Soccer, Olympics + Comic Book or Pop Art style
Step 7: Set Up the Booth for Best Results
The quality of AI-generated portraits depends heavily on the input photo. Before your event:
Lighting
Use ring lights, softboxes, or continuous lighting.
Faces should be bright and evenly lit — no harsh shadows or dim exposures.
Camera Distance
Guests should stand close to the camera so their face fills most of the frame.
A tight crop on the face and upper body produces the best AI output.
Group Size
1–2 people per photo is ideal.
Up to 4 people is supported, but quality per face decreases as the group gets larger.
Other Tips
Avoid sunglasses, masks, or anything covering the face.
Ensure your booth has a stable internet connection — AI processing happens in the cloud.
Step 8: Confirm Your AI Credit Balance
Each portrait generation uses 1 AI credit. Before your event:
In the Dashboard, go to Subscriptions.
Confirm your credit balance is sufficient for your expected guest count.
If needed, top up with a Pay-As-You-Go credit pack — credits never expire and can be added on top of any monthly plan.
