Wired Accessories Permissions

Apple OS permission settings for connecting wired accessories

Updated this week

Important Update for iOS 18 and Later

Starting with iOS 18, Apple introduced a new privacy permission called "Wired Accessories" to protect users when connecting external devices via USB or Lightning cables. This setting directly affects external camera functionality in LumaBooth.

What You Need to Know

When you connect an external camera to an iPad or iPhone running iOS 18+, you may see a system prompt. You must allow this permission for your external camera to function correctly with LumaBooth.

First-Time Setup

  1. Connect your external camera to your device using a USB cable (and the official Apple adapter if required).

  2. Grant permission when the prompt "Allow [App Name] to Use Wired Accessories?" appears.

  3. Tap Allow to enable the connection.

Enable Wired Accessories Permissions:

  1. On the device, Open System Settings.

  2. Go to Privacy & Security.

  3. Scroll to the Security section and select Wired Accessories.

  4. Set to Allows Allow.

This allows your iPad to communicate with connected devices such as external cameras. If you previously selected โ€œDonโ€™t Allow,โ€ you can change it here.

Troubleshooting on macOS (Apple Silicon)

If you are running LumaBooth on a Mac with Apple Silicon:

  1. Open System Settings.

  2. Go to Privacy & Security.

  3. Scroll to the Security section.

  4. Ensure "Allow accessories to connect" is set to Always or Ask for New Accessories.

Still Having Issues?

If the camera is not recognized after granting permission, try these steps:

  • Check the Cable: Ensure you aren't using a "charge-only" cable; it must support data transfer.

  • Cycle the Connection: Disconnect and reconnect the cable firmly.

  • Restart: Force quit the LumaBooth app and restart your device.

  • Verify Hardware: Ensure you are using a genuine Apple adapter or a MFi-certified third-party alternative.

Note: This is a system-level privacy feature required for all apps connecting to wired hardware on iOS 18+. For a full list of supported hardware, please refer to our Camera Compatibility Guide.
