To prevent guests from closing LumaBooth and accessing other apps, you can use different methods depending on your device:
iOS/iPadOS - Guided Access (Recommended)
Guided Access locks LumaBooth to be the only available application on iPad and iPhone devices.
Setup Guided Access
Tap Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access to set up Guided Access.
From there you can:
Set Guided Access to On
Set a passcode that controls the use of Guided Access and prevents someone from exiting the application.
Set whether the device can go to sleep during a session.
Start a Guided Access session
Open LumaBooth.
iPads/iPhones with home button: Triple-click the Home button.
iPads/iPhone with no home button: Triple press the Power button.
Adjust settings for the session, then click Start.
In LumaBooth, Open top menu, then tap on the Lock button to lock your settings.
End Guided Access
To end guided access, triple click the home button or triple press the power button same as before and enter in the PIN you setup up under Guided Access.
Battery Drain
In iOS 9 and later the default settings are configured so that the auto-lock time no longer applies when used in Guided Access. This means the device will remain active and can continually drain the battery even when an auto-lock time has been set.
β
However, there is an adjustment you can make which will help to avoid unwanted battery drain while using Guided Access. Within the Guided Access settings if you turn ON the sleep/wake button option the device will sleep after a period of time and in addition, you can use the device lock button to lock the device immediately.
β
To make this adjustment, open Guided Access by triple pressing the home button. Tap options under the hardware buttons heading then switch the sleep/wake button to on.
β
This setting is specific to each app used while in Guided Access, so the change will need to made when you enter Guided Access for each individual app.
macOS - App-Level Lock Only
Note: macOS does not have an equivalent to iOS Guided Access. The Lock button in LumaBooth will only lock the app's settings, but users can still exit the application using standard macOS methods (β+Q, clicking the red close button, etc.).
Available Options on macOS
App Lock: Use LumaBooth's built-in lock feature to prevent changes to settings
Full Screen Mode: Run LumaBooth in full screen to minimize distractions
Remove Dock: Auto-hide the dock in System Preferences for a cleaner experience
Limitations on macOS
Users can still exit LumaBooth using keyboard shortcuts
System menu bar remains accessible
Not suitable for true kiosk environments where complete app restriction is required
For Enterprise macOS Deployments
Consider using Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions or third-party kiosk software for stricter app control if needed for commercial installations.
