Scribble Booth and Mirror Booth: Flip Captured Photos and Videos (LumaBooth for iPad, iPhone, and Mac)

An iPad photo booth head-on, its screen showing two laughing guests behind clear acrylic where one has written the word Love in glowing pink neon script beside a green heart, the writing reading the right way around

A scribble booth puts a sheet of clear acrylic between your guests and the camera. Guests draw, sign, and write messages on the glass, and the camera captures them mid-scribble. There is one catch: the camera sees the writing from behind, so it comes out backwards. LumaBooth 5.4 for iPad, iPhone, and Mac adds a single setting that fixes this. Turn on Flip captured photos & videos and every saved photo, GIF, boomerang, and video is mirrored, so writing reads the right way around and what prints matches what guests saw on screen.

The same setting is what mirror booths want. Guests expect the final photo to match their reflection, and with the flip on, it does.

Side by side: with Flip off the word written on the glass reads backwards, with Flip on it reads correctly

Turn it on in LumaBooth

You need LumaBooth 5.4 or later. See How to Update LumaBooth and Check Your App Version if you are not sure which version you have.

1. Open your event, tap the menu arrow at the top right, and choose Capture settings.

2. Scroll to the bottom of the settings. Turn on Flip captured photos & videos. The note under it reads "Mirrors the saved & printed result."

3. Run a test session. The captured photo, and the print if printing is on, should now read the right way around.

The setting is saved with the event, so it stays on for every session until you turn it off. Turn it off again for regular booth setups where guests expect a normal, unmirrored photo.

Turn it on from the LumaBooth Dashboard

If you build your events in the LumaBooth Dashboard, the same switch lives there and syncs to your devices.

1. Open your event and go to its Capture settings.

2. For Photo, open the Flip tab and turn on Flip captured photos & videos.

3. For GIF, Boomerang, Video, and the other capture modes, the switch is on the General tab.

It is one event-wide setting, so turning it on in any mode turns it on for the whole event.

What gets flipped, and what does not

Flipped: the captured photo, every photo inside a GIF or boomerang, and recorded video. That carries through to the print, the saved file, the gallery, and anything guests share. It works with the built-in camera and with a connected Canon, Sony, or Nikon.

Not flipped: your template. Overlays, logos, text, and stickers stay exactly as you designed them, so your branding never comes out backwards.

Live view is separate. The mirrored live view on the screen only changes what guests see while they pose. Flip captured photos & videos changes the file itself. With the flip on, the final photo matches the mirrored preview, which is what most guests expect.

Scribble booth tips

Use a bright paint marker or neon liquid chalk on the acrylic so the writing pops on camera, and wipe the sheet between groups. Light the guests, not the glass, to keep reflections down. Keep the device or camera square to the sheet so the writing stays in focus, and run one test session with the flip on before guests arrive.
