Sony Camera Support

Unfortunately Sony has stopped developing their Camera API for Sony cameras. Support for Sony cameras is no longer available on dslrBooth for Windows and was removed in 2020.

This is an old article for archival purposes. As of dslrBooth v6 2021, Sony cameras are no longer supported.

-----

Due to wifi interference we recommend Nikon/Canon cameras for professional events. Sony cameras cannot be used over a USB cable due to technical limitations by Sony.

Supported Cameras:

  • a7S II, a7R II
  • a6300
  • RX1R II, RX10 II
  • RX100 IV, RX100 III
  • HX90V, HX90
  • WX500
  • HDR-AS20, HDR-AS302, HDR-AS1002 HDR-AZ1 HDR-AS200
  • FDR-X1000
  • HDR-AS50
  • QX1, DSC-QX30 DSC-QX102, DSC-QX1002
  • a7, a7 II, a7R, a7S

  • a5000, a5100
  • a6000, a6300
  • NEX-5R, NEX-5T, NEX-6
  • HX60, HX80, HX400

To use a Sony Camera:

If your camera can run applications, go to PlayMemories, install the latest updated version of Smart Remote Control.

1. Run the Smart Remote Control app on your camera. Click on Connect with Password if available.

2. On your computer, connect to your camera's Wifi network using the SSID and Password you see on the screen.

3. dslrBooth will auto-connect to your camera.

It also works with Sony RX10
1 Go to the bookmark wifi
    2 Select "Ctrl w / Smartphone"
3 On the computer searches for the network and enter the wifi password
4 Turn on the progam DSLRBoot
    It works :)

Can you use the a Sony camera (a6000) tethered?  I'm concerned that if I have to log m laptop into the camera's wifi then it will cause issues with my wifi printers and photo share.   My plan is to use the a6000 with a Surface Pro, and a wifi printer set away from the camera, but I also want to run photo share

With Sony RX10 works, but sometimes the picture stutters. On the monitor, the image does not move. The camera is adorned with a good picture and prints. Jam is 70 images Then the camera takes away well.
It is best to use a manual lens or disable AF to the camera from focusing. As it is dark, the camera focuses 0.5-2 sec.
How will I have time to check with the A77 II.

Hello, can I use a SONY A6000 with a PC (without wifi) ?

Does the cable connection work? I tried to connect this model to a pc, then to a laptop using a cable, the camera works with Sony "Remote Camera Control" but the dslrBooth is not recognizing the camera.

    Any help?

If my computer is connected to my sony camera through wifi, does that mean that I can't connect to the internet at the same time and upload any photos?

Jason, that is true, BUT I bought a small USB wifi stick for about $15 from Amazon and my computer then allows 2 wifi connections. I connect to the camera with one and internet with other and it works just fine. Maybe not ideal, but it works.

Yeah sure! I use an a7s, a7r and even qx1 works. (with laptop and windows tablet) I do have to make the WiFi connection first and then start dslrbooth.

In my case, unfortunately, it does not work :(
Sony connects to the laptop via wifi. The software sees the Sony RX100 M3, but when you press the screen nothing happens. Counter does not count down. Live image can not be seen :(

Tested with my A6500. Got it working but sometimes the connection is weak. 1/5 bars when is just right next to my laptop. While sometimes is 2-3 bars when its 2meters apart.

SONY DSC-HX400V ... the Sony PlayMemories works great with my smart phone but when I try to connect to my PC running Windows 10 I select the SSID: Direct....  it connects and then ask for a Network Password that is suppose to be displayed on the LCD Screen of my Sony Camera but there is none and I tried every password I know lol... Computer Log-in, the wifi network passcode, etc. nothing works...

    Any help here please? Thanks

Bruce Walrod, read the screen carefully, if you have a QR code, then it's set to login with that, it will write on the bottom Connect with Password and indicate what button to press you have to press  somewhere on the bottom or top(sony has different layouts for each camera for some reason), and then it will display the password you need to enter.

    Hi there,

I'm able to connect my Sony a6000 to the software fine, but I'm wondering if anyone can help explain to me how to get the computer to connect to a second wifi to enable sharing functions. Keir mentioned buying an additional internet stick. How would this work?

I.e. the computer connects to the camera's SSID, then the computer would also have to connect to the internet/wifi via the stick? Or would it be the other way around?

    Any advice would be appreciated!

Hello, I have a sony a6000 connected through wifi, after it takes the photos it takes way too long to process before the email photo part shows up. Is there a way to speed up this process? Why does it take so long?

I was able to setup my sony a6500 to my surface pro 6, and it did work, the only thing was the live view was laggy, I lower the camera resolution to small and quality to standard and now works more stable with live view, but it takes a little bit to trigger for some reason, It feels it would fail in any moment

I was able to connect my Sony A6400, the wifi signal was great. i had to play with it a bit. for me, my autofocus needed to be set to continuous AF. i figured this out when i would start the photo timer but at the countdown i would hear my camera beep for focus but would not take a photo. (i went through all the dials) so i assumed instead of taking the photo its doing the half press focus where it beeps. so to counter that i set it to continuous autofocus hoping that when it sends a signal now, itll take the photo instead. to my surprise it works like a charm. This also solved the Unable to Trigger Camera error. Hopefully this helps everyone.
